Hong Kong has many colorful and lively streets and indoor markets that are invariably popular with visitors. In this article, I will take a look at one such market, Stanley Market.

The location is Stanley New Street and Stanley Market Road, Stanley, Hong Kong Island.

About Stanley Market
This market is a must-visit for tourists in Hong Kong. It is slightly more “marketable” than most other street markets in Hong Kong and offers good quality merchandise. The market consists mainly of stores in narrow alleys that put all their goods on the sidewalk during their opening hours.

While most stores allow bargaining, the discounts offered at Stanley’s Market are usually not as great as those offered at some other street markets in Hong Kong. Stores offer a wide variety of clothes, shoes, sportswear, jewelry, Chinese silk clothing, paintings and other artwork, toys, and souvenirs.

You can also buy some original designer fashion brands at this market, and there are also outlet stores that sell factory overstock and illiquid items.

Some stores specialize in larger sizes of clothes and shoes that can be hard to find elsewhere, as many stores in Hong Kong only sell stock in small Asian sizes. The market can get crowded on weekends and public holidays.

The market is located in Stanley, a scenic seaside resort on the south coast of Hong Kong Island that is a popular tourist destination.

Activities in Stanley Market
Attractions include beaches (Central Stanley Beach and St. Stephen’s Stanley Beach Park), a waterfront with stores, restaurants and cafes, temples, Murray House, Stanley Plaza, Hong Kong Museum of Correctional Services, Stanley Ma Hung Park, Stanley Military Cemetery, which are within walking distance of the market.

The Hong Kong Maritime Museum, which was housed in Murray House, closed on June 4, 2012 and was moved to a much larger space on Central Pier 8, where it reopened in early February 2013.

Hours of operation: stores are open from 9 a.m. (some stores open later) to 6:00-6:30 p.m. daily.
