This post about Mong Kok Market and Yuen Po Street Bird Market in Hong Kong. Let’s start!

The Hong Kong Flower Market features more than 50 stores with stalls presenting a colorful landscape of plants of all varieties. The Flower Market is located on Flower Market Road, Prince Edward Road West, Sai Yee Street and Yuen Po Street.

There is also a bird market directly adjacent to the Flower Market. Both of these markets are an interesting mix of Hong Kong attractions.

Origins of the market
In the 1960s, the Dim Sum Restaurant on Shanghai Street in Hong Kong became a popular spot for bird lovers, those who would take their caged birds and listen to them sing while dining. Soon vendors selling feed for these birds began to appear around the restaurant, setting up stalls near the restaurant.

When the restaurant was demolished, the vendors moved to a nearby alley, Hong Lock Street, and the number of street stalls grew to 80. The street was later named after the birds, Bird Street, and became a popular tourist attraction. In December 1997, the traders on Bird Street were relocated to the new Yuen Po Street Bird Market. The bird market, which is adjacent to the flower market, covers an area of 3,000 square meters.

Locals are proud to bring their songbirds to the market. In addition, there are a huge number of stalls selling birds of all colors and colors, including parrots and songbirds, as well as feed, cages, feeders, and much, much more. The garden has some interesting architectural features, including glazed or ceramic tiles that reflect all shades of sunlight, marble bird figures and a giant mural depicting more than 100 birds.
